Paul Boakye, a Port of Harlem contributor based in the United Kingdom, released a new short history video for Black Diaspora Cinema. The video, DNA Doesn't Lie, documents the Egyptian links to West Africa.

“I took a DNA test that showed I share an ancient paternal lineage (E-P252) with Pharaoh Ramesses III, like about 10-30% of men across West Africa today,” explained master storyteller Boakye on what inspired him to create the AI-assisted video. He continued, “Yet I see a lot of people online trying to claim that ancient Egyptians had nothing to do with so-called ‘sub-Saharan’ Africa. I wanted to follow the evidence and find out for myself.”

The video includes a link where viewers can request the sources the prize-winning writer used to create the story. In six minutes, “DNA Doesn’t Lie (2026) | Egypt’s African Roots Revealed,” includes the story of Dr. Cheikh Anta Diop and his “inconvenient” thesis.

Black Diaspora Cinema is a YouTube channel dedicated to preserving and sharing films from the African diaspora. It features a curated archive of cinema from Africa, the Caribbean, Black Europe, Afro-Latin America, and African American stories.
